February, the Month of Love. Time for little fat babies with wings, heart shaped everything, and going all out for the one you love. Sure, love should be celebrated all year long, but Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to pause, be intentional, and have a little extra fun with your favorite person. With less than two weeks between now and the Big Day, it’s time to put on your date night cap and get something special planned, maybe even include your spouse in on the fun!
“But Amanda, Valentine’s Day is just a made up holiday so that the card companies could make a lot of money!” Maybe you’re right, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make it a good time! Any chance to celebrate your love should be celebrated! (Leveling up your dinner game on occasion is also an option.)

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be stressful or a day you dread each year. I hope to encourage you with this post that regardless of budget, babysitter, or level of creativity, you can plan a romantic and memorable Valentine’s Day for you and your spouse. We recently polled our instagram followers who told us that they’re looking for Valentine’s ideas that are at home and budget friendly, with a little wiggle room in the budget for those who want to invest a little more money in supplies. Whether you’re a Valentine’s Day enthusiast or a skeptic, these ideas are designed to bring you closer, spark laughter, and create memories—without the stress. Here are 7 fun, budget-friendly date nights you can enjoy right at home.
1. Charcuterie and Conversation– This is a top favorite because it is SO versatile. Grab yourself a nice charcuterie board and put whatever you want on it! Maybe you’re into the classic meat & cheese board, or maybe you want to branch out with a dessert board consisting of oreos, HoHo’s, and hot fudge. Whatever your vibe, whatever your budget, a charcuterie board will work. Light some candles and let the conversation (and cheese) flow.
2. Themed date night– This is one we don’t do entirely enough. Again, so much flexibility in this! Choose a theme for the night. You can stay simple with a type of cuisine or take it up a level to a specific movie or party theme. You and your forever date can split up the courses/duties for the night and each bring your own unique spin to the table. Maybe it’s a Monte Carlo theme and you end the night with poker (see date number 3). Perhaps it’s Asian themed and you enjoy eating food with chopsticks and watching anime. Dressing up for the occasion is another way to add to the creativity.
3. Couple’s Game Night– Board games or Mario Kart, add a little competitive spirit to your Valentine’s date! Keep it PG with some conversation and footsie under the table or take a turn towards something a little more sexy by having the loser of each round lose an article of clothing. We all know where the night is headed… why not give it a head start?

4. Hot Chocolate & Stargazing– Sweet, simple, and to the point. Cuddle up on the back porch, your kid’s trampoline, or an air mattress in the backyard. There’s a cool app called SkyView Lite (for Apple & Android) that you can use to see where different planets and constellations are. Level up by getting your spouse a star named after them or get a star map for your anniversary date. Get star themed jammies for the cuddle sesh. If your focus is more on the beverage, buy the fanciest hot chocolate you can find and grab some toppings.
5. Fort building & Movie– When was the last time you built a fort? (If your answer isn’t ‘last weekend,’ you’re overdue!) Empty your linen closet and raid your guest room for the extra pillows. If you don’t already have an air mattress, or you’ve been looking for an excuse to upgrade, use this as an opportunity to invest! Take it outside with a movie screen if you have a little wiggle room in your budget. Candles, movie snacks, Dr. Pepper, and a classic RomCom (The Princess Bride, anyone?) are perfect for setting the mood.
6. Paint & Sip– Not one we’ve done, but on my list! If the two of you are creative, I’m sure there are some good tutorials to follow on YouTube, while the rest of us can order one of those paint & sip kits off of Amazon. If you’re in the mood to test your love, you can paint each other across the table and have a fun reveal of your partner’s painting skills. Pour your drink of choice into a glass and get those paint brushes ready!
7. Blind Taste Test Challenge– Pick different snacks, wines, desserts, or fast food french fries. Blindfold each other and guess what you’re tasting. It’s playful, surprising, and sensory in all the best ways, and the blindfold can be used later in the night!
I could go on and on with date night ideas (future series maybe?). Reality is that it doesn’t matter what you do for Valentine’s Day as long as it is intentional, focused, and meaningful to both of you. It’s not about grand gestures or picture-perfect plans—it’s about creating space to genuinely connect, whether that’s through deep conversation, shared laughter, or quiet moments together. The best date nights aren’t defined by what you do, but by how present you are with each other.
Now it’s your turn!
