Marriage has its seasons.
From the fresh excitement of newlyweds to the steady routines of doing life together, it can feel stable, even easy at times. But then life happens—kids, careers, friendships, PTA meetings, church gatherings, and a million other good things. Before you know it, date night becomes a distant memory, and the person you chose to do life with feels more like a roommate than a partner.
We’ve been there. Sometimes, we find ourselves creeping back to that place of coasting. But God desires more for marriage than just “comfortable.” He designed it to be intentional, sacrificial, and full of joy—a reflection of His love.
One thing that helps our connection is to simply answer questions that spur additional conversation. Use conversation starters like these to enhance your date night:
- What is something in life that you’re excited about right now?
- What is one thing you wish we did together more often?
- What is something you did as a kid that you’d love to do on a date night?
- What’s been on your mind lately?
So, what’s on your date night agenda this week? How will you move your marriage from “coasting” to “connected”? Maybe it’s a quiet dinner, a fun adventure, or just sitting together in prayer. Whatever it looks like, don’t settle for “just okay.”
Invest in your marriage, because a thriving relationship is worth far more than coasting ever could be.
